What’s it like to take a trip with Bright Hill Collective? What makes Bright Hill trips different from other mission trips?
To start with, Bright Hill Collective wasn’t started by missionaries or pastors. It was started by the two weirdos in this picture. Ann and Robert Horton aren’t theologians. They’re just a couple of entrepreneurs who love Jesus, love people, and saw a need when they first visited El Salvador in 2004.

We should probably confess that these two had never been on a mission trip until they started leading them. That’s probably why Bright Hill trips are a little different. (We also should confess that these two might be considered impulsive but that they stick with what they start. After all, they got engaged after dating for two weeks, but they’ve been married for over fifty years. We shouldn’t be surprised that a short trip to El Salvador turned into a ministry that’s lasted over twenty years.)
At Bright Hill, we believe in using the strengths God has given us to show His love to others. We are workers with a desire to see a job through to its completion or, in the case of Bright Hill’s ministry, until we hear the final, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
For that reason, our trips are about work. Don’t worry. You’ll have lot of fun, too! But, you won’t go door-to-door or hand out tracts in our neighborhood. Instead, you’ll work side by side and get to know people. In our years of working in El Salvador, we’ve come to see that the best way to share the Gospel here is to work with our neighbors in construction and education projects, getting to know them and showing them Christ’s love through our actions and our words.
Our trips are short. Their influence isn’t. Bright Hill Collective has worked in the same community for over twenty years and is a constant presence in this area, always working to point people to Christ. Our Trippers are here for a short time, but our ministry is lasting, and we are able to continue the work when our teams go home. The projects that Trippers do on their Bright Hill trip and the people that they meet and pour into will be here when they come back, and many Trippers do return to pick up the work again and again.
Bright Hill trips might be a little different, but we’re okay with that. We just keep doing the work that God has called us to and introducing people to the place and people we’ve loved since we first met them.
